LightBug devices utilise three location technologies in this order:

  • GNSS 
Devices will try to locate using satellites (4 different constellations: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou for the best accuracy). The accuracy is typically 0.5m - 10m.

  • WiFi
If GNSS fails and the device is in range of WiFi networks, it will locate using access points. The accuracy is typically 10m - 40m.

  • Cell tower triangulation 
This is a last resort if everything else fails, and is the least accurate location type at typically 50m - 2km. (This depends on the number of cell towers available)

Our devices work anywhere in the world where there is cellular coverage (approx. 90% of the inhabited world).
